Spanish company Paisajismo Urbano arrives in Saudi Arabia

After more than five weeks of intensive work, the Paisajismo Urbano team, led by biologist and botanical expert Ignacio Solano, has successfully completed an ambitious project in the city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The project consists of a 180 m² vertical garden spread across eight green walls—seven exterior and one interior—in a private residence, incorporating around 6,000 plants belonging to more than 30 different species, many of which are endemic to the region.

This new milestone marks the arrival of Paisajismo Urbano in the Saudi market, through its local franchise Paisajismo Urbano KSA, and represents a significant step forward in the international expansion of the firm specialising in vertical ecosystems.

Adapting to the desert: a challenge overcome

The main challenge of this project has been to create a sustainable vertical ecosystem in a desert environment, with extreme conditions such as the virtual absence of rainfall, average annual temperatures of 25.4°C, and temperature variations of more than 20 degrees throughout the year. To achieve this, Ignacio Solano led a botanical expedition through the country’s natural landscapes, with the aim of studying the native flora and selecting resistant species that could thrive in a vertical garden.

The result is a design that blends science, art, architecture and ecology, in perfect harmony with the natural and cultural environment of the site. Each plant species has been chosen not only for its aesthetic value, but also for its ability to adapt to the arid climate, ensuring the viability and durability of the project over time.

A new benchmark in sustainability and biodiversity

With this vertical garden, Paisajismo Urbano reinforces its commitment to biodiversity and ecological design, applying techniques that allow the creation of authentic self-sufficient ecosystems even in the most hostile environments. The project in Ryahd not only beautifies the environment, but also acts as an urban green lung, helping to filter the air, reduce urban heat and improve the quality of life for those who live in and visit the area.

This achievement in Saudi Arabia consolidates Ignacio Solano and his team as international leaders in vertical gardening, opening up new possibilities for the revegetation of desert areas and sustainable urban landscaping in extreme climates.
