Ignacio Solano

The architect of jungles

Ignacio Solano, biologist and founder of Paisajismo Urbano, has spent more than 14 years researching tropical ecosystems in jungles around the world. This work has given rise to the innovative concept of vertical ecosystems , an evolution of vertical gardens that integrates the complex relationships between flora and microfauna, inspired by the natural processes observed in wild habitats.

His connection with nature began in childhood, when he spent hours capturing reptiles to study them and recreate their micro-systems. That curiosity led him to specialise in biology and undertake expeditions to places all over the world.

Their mission: to bring forests to cities, transforming walls into green lungs.

Ecosystem technician

Since first setting foot in Mexico, Ignacio Solano has never stopped travelling the world in search of nature’s best-kept secrets. His curiosity has led him to venture into the dense jungles of Chocó, explore the biodiversity of Réunion Island, traverse the ecosystems of Ecuador, Costa Rica, Madagascar, the Lacandon Jungle and the Chilean desert, among many other remote corners of the planet.

On each expedition, Ignacio has closely observed the behaviour of unique species and collected samples of plants, fungi and bacteria for analysis in his laboratories. These experiences have not only given him a deep and practical understanding of ecosystems, but have also been key to perfecting his technique in creating vertical gardens, connecting science, nature and living architecture with a precision that comes from direct experience.
